The 2014 edition of Google's annual list of most-searched topics is here, and judging by the stuff America was buzzing about, it was a weird and depressing year indeed.

The list:

  1. Robin Williams
  2. World Cup
  3. Ebola
  4. Malaysia Airlines
  5. Flappy Bird
  6. ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
  7. ISIS
  8. Ferguson
  9. Frozen
  10. Ukraine

Topping the list is a beloved actor and comic genius who decided he no longer wished to live in this world, and behind that is the World Cup, which isn't so bad if you can ignore the awful corruption of FIFA. Next is Ebola, a raging epidemic that killed thousands in West Africa, and that we didn't really start caring about until an innocent puppy's life was at risk. And a plane crash.

Coming in at number five is a game so excruciatingly difficult and repetitive that only a masochist could love it, and at six an "awareness" campaign that did as much to aggravate everyone with a Facebook account as it did to help victims of ALS. Finally, a brutal international terrorist organization, a racist murder, a Disney Movie, and a civil war.

The list of trending people is no less bleak.

1. Jennifer Lawrence (nudes, hacked)

2. Kim Kardashian (nudes, consensual and hacked)

3. Tracy Morgan (horrible car accident)

4. Ray Rice (domestic violence)

5. Tony Stewart (horrible car accident)

6. Iggy Azalea (horrible car accident)

7. Donald Sterling (racist)

8. Adrian Peterson (domestic violence)

9. Rene Zellweger (weird face)

10. Jared Leto (nudes, imagined)

Here's to 2015, everybody!
